The article that I read was on renewable and sustainable energy, and how that could easily be the main source of  this countries energy in the next 10 years. The sources of energy that we are using now, such as oil, is not a sustainable resource and the earth will eventually run dry and not produce it anymore, and this is a major crisis because of the United States' dependency on foreign oil. We need a way to power our houses, and cars and offices, so there needs to be a "back-up plan" for when this actually happens. Some ways this country is making "greener" energy choices is by harnessing power from hydroelectric dams, geothermic, solar and wind energy. These are much cleaner, more environmentally, and safer options then oil, coal or nuclear power. We are hoping that eventually these greener options become our sustainable energy source since they reduce our environmental impact and are renewable.

Above is two photos showing how Hydroelectric Dams and Geothermal Power is harnessed and used.

Opinion:

I believe that we really need to start using energy sources that can be renewed and can sustain us in the long run, because Earth's resources are very limited, and we are burning through the supply very quickly. We need something that will quench the world's need for energy and using Earth's renewable sources instead of non-renewable sources is a great way to do it.

Questions:

1.) What renewable energy source do you believe will power the United States in the future?
2.) What are your personal thoughts on renewable / sustainable energy?
3.) Have you ever seen solar panel, a hydroelectric dam, or a wind turbine?

This is a great article by The Washington Post. It explains how a potential policy to place a tax on carbon emissions over a few years could be put into place. This would force people to make an environmental decision to transition from carbon energy to renewable and green energy.

  2. The expert that I invited was Professor Richard Green. He was a Professor of Energy Economics and Director of the Institute for Energy Research. For over 20 years, he has been studying the economics and regulation of the electricity industry. Recently the main focus of his work has been on the impact of low carbon generation on the electricity market. He is a good choice because he is very educated and experienced. He has a lot of knowledge on sustainable energy.
    Hi Professor Green,
My name is Dasha and I am taking environmental science at Hatboro-Horsham High School. My class has a blog on renewable and sustainable energy. It would be great if you would be able to take some time to comment on it and give your opinion. The link to our blog is

    Thank You!
    Sincerely,
    Dasha

  3. In respose to the first question: What renewable energy source do you believe will power the United States in the future?: I think that the United states will have to go to either wind or soaler energy. I saw a thing on TV once that was saying thaty more sun eb=nergy goes unused a day is more than the amountof energy that Americans use daily. My Personal thoughts about renewable energy is that I think it is a great place to put time and money in to becuase it will soon be our soucre, and to wait any longer would be foolish. my answer to the third question Have you ever seen solar panel, a hydroelectric dam, or a wind turbine?: is I have seen Solar panels on TV but never in person the same goes for Wind turbind. I have never Seen a hydroelectric dam, I have heard my brother talk aboput them and i think that it would be cool to see one.
